Cash bond remains in place in domestic abuse case – Portage Daily Register
A judge denied several defense motions to reset bond Wednesday for a Portage man accused of domestic abuse and making violent threats.
Appearing at the Columbia County Courthouse by video feed Wednesday, Philip P. Capone, 64, filed a motion for bond modification and for bond to be reset in three related criminal cases.
Capone also sought a new attorney to handle all three cases together.
Judge Todd Hepler said the court would not appoint private counsel because Capone qualifies for a public defender. A previous motion for substitution of counsel had also been denied, according to court records.
Hepler denied all motions regarding bond modification.
Court records indicate that in an initial court appearance Jan. 17, Capone was held in custody on a $3,000 cash bond and was ordered not to contact a victim in an alleged domestic abuse case.
Capone is scheduled to return to court March 21.
